French bankers will have to pay a bonus of 50 per cent tax

French President Nicolas Sarkozy plans to follow the example of Great Britain and introduce a one-time tax payment of bonuses to bankers this year, reports the Financial Times. French leadership is going to connect a 50% tax in the budget for all bonus payments in excess of 27 thousand euros.

Now France and Britain insist that such taxes were imposed throughout the eurozone. The only official from the French government has told Financial Times, that talks about the possibility of introducing a one-time tax continued for some time, but the authorities should refrain from a final decision, fearing to undermine the attractiveness of Paris as a financial center. "Now this obstacle has disappeared because it was made in London" - said the source.

Recall on Wednesday Britain announced that introduces one-time tax on bonuses to employees of the financial sector, the volume of which exceeds 25 thousand pounds. According to the leaders of Britain and France, "a tax on bonuses should be a priority due to the fact that bonuses in 2009 came largely thanks to government support of the banking industry."
