Consumer price growth in Britain slowed

Consumer price growth in Britain in June, as expected, slowed down the second consecutive month, mainly because of falling fuel prices, reports Dow Jones Newswires.

"A number of factors should lead to lower overall inflation, but the main one will drop in gasoline prices," - said Investec Securities economist David Page. He adds that despite this slowdown, inflation expectations are still high and, although this does not necessarily mean higher inflation.

"The Committee on monetary policy will remain cautious," - he adds.


This week, as there are data on unemployment in the UK, which should indicate that the number of Britons who receive unemployment benefits fell in June, the fifth consecutive month, despite a variety of evidence indicating a lack of confidence of companies and insufficient investment, says economists.
